Reach Robotics attended the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) 2022 in Tampa, Florida from 16-19 May. SOFIC is an opportunity to connect with the Special Operations Forces Community and collaborate with the wider industry. Reach Robotics were honoured to attend with Team Defence Australia, representing cutting edge Australian defence technology with 21 other leading companies.

“It was fantastic to work with Team Defence Australia. I was able to collaborate on the stand and learn from the Team’s diverse insights into the industry. We also had amazing barista coffee, which attracted a large number of guests to the stand who stayed on to operate the Reach Bravo and learn about its functions”.

James Spinks, Sales Manager.

SOFIC 2022 had more than 13,000 attendees from more than 50 countries, including Australia. It was a great opportunity for Reach Robotics to demonstrate our robotic manipulators and discuss their applications for aerial drones, land rovers and space with industry insiders.

Attendees were invited to operate the Reach Bravo 7 robotic arm using a Master Arm Controller and Reach Control Software at our interactive exhibit. Users gained first-hand experience with Reach Robotics’s intuitive operating systems, demonstrating the ease-of-use and minimal training requirements for our manipulator technology.

We also enjoyed touring the show and witnessing the other exhibits on display. Elaborating on his notable experiences from SOFIC, James mentioned:

“A highlight of the conference was the extraction demonstration held outside the exhibition in the bay. We saw the deployment and retrieval of a dive team from Black Hawk Helicopter, extraction of hostages from an enemy ship and many other Special Operations strategies.”

Overall, Reach Robotics enjoyed exhibiting and participating in SOFIC 2022 and look forward to returning to the conference in future years.

Command Pods

Command Pods are a pair of space mouse controllers comprising of left and right units. They are designed to attach to an ROV control tablet and allow full system control from one interface. The Command Pod configuration simplifies control of a dual-manipulator system as operators are able to intuitively control both arms, while still piloting the vehicle.
The joystick model allows for arms to be directed towards a target while the system automatically maps the arms configuration along that path.

MASTER ARMS

Compatible with all Reach Robotics manipulators, the Master Arm controller is available in five and seven-function models to mimic your robotic arm. Achieve unparalleled precision and accuracy while undertaking complex tasks including:
  • Precise placement of probes for crack and corrosion monitoring.
  • Place and recover objects with unmatched dexterity and minimised
    workload.
  • Attach hooks and shackles consistently.
  • Reach confined areas unreachable with lower degree-of-freedom manipulators
    and traditional control methods.
